Privacy Policy

LinguaPuck ("the app") is developed by Lavooij Management BV ("we", "us", "our"), registered in the Netherlands. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use LinguaPuck.

What the app does on your device

LinguaPuck uses Apple's on-device Speech and Translation frameworks to recognize what you say and translate it. This processing happens locally, using the neural engine of your iPhone. No audio, no transcribed text, and no translated text ever leaves your device — not to us, not to Apple's servers, not to anyone.

Permissions we request

• Microphone — to capture your speech so it can be recognized and translated, entirely on-device.
• Speech Recognition — to convert what you say into text using Apple's on-device recognizer, so it can be translated.

Neither permission is used for any purpose beyond powering the live translation feature you actively trigger by pressing a speak button.

The LinguaPuck hardware accessory

LinguaPuck can optionally be used with a separate hardware accessory (also called "the puck") that acts as an external microphone. Audio captured through the puck is treated exactly the same as audio from your iPhone's built-in microphone: processed on-device only, never transmitted anywhere.

Offline use

Once you have downloaded a language pair for offline use (via iOS's own language download mechanism), LinguaPuck works without any internet connection at all. No connectivity means no possibility of data being sent anywhere, by design.

Data retention

Recognized and translated text is kept only in the app's memory for the duration of your current conversation. It is cleared automatically when you start a new utterance, switch languages, or close the app. Nothing is written to disk, backed up, or persisted in any way.

Accounts, analytics, and third parties

LinguaPuck has no user accounts, no sign-in, no cloud storage, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and shows no advertising. The only third-party components involved are Apple's built-in, on-device Speech and Translation frameworks, which are governed by Apple's own privacy terms for iOS system services.

Children's privacy

LinguaPuck does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.

Your rights

Because LinguaPuck does not collect or process any personal data on our servers, there is no personal data held by Lavooij Management BV to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions about this, you're welcome to contact us at the address below.

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your use of the LinguaPuck app and the optional LinguaPuck hardware accessory, provided by Lavooij Management BV. By using LinguaPuck, you agree to these terms.

License

Subject to your compliance with these terms and Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, Lavooij Management BV grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, personal license to use LinguaPuck on Apple devices that you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

Intended use

LinguaPuck is designed to help two people who speak different languages communicate more easily in everyday, face-to-face conversation. It is a convenience tool, not a certified interpretation service.

No warranty on translation accuracy

Speech recognition and machine translation are not perfect. LinguaPuck may misinterpret speech or produce imperfect translations, particularly with background noise, accents, technical terminology, or ambiguous phrasing. Do not rely on LinguaPuck for medical, legal, safety-critical, or other situations where mistranslation could cause harm — use a qualified human interpreter in those cases.

The LinguaPuck hardware accessory

The LinguaPuck accessory, where applicable, is sold and provided separately from the app and is intended solely as an external microphone input for the app. It is not a medical or safety device. Use it only as described in the instructions provided with it, and at your own risk.

Acceptable use

• You will not use LinguaPuck for any unlawful purpose or in a way that infringes the rights of others.
• You will not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app or accessory beyond what is permitted by applicable law.

Intellectual property

LinguaPuck (the app, its design, and the associated hardware accessory design) is the property of Lavooij Management BV. These terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or branding beyond what is necessary to use the app as intended.

Availability and changes

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of LinguaPuck at any time. We aim to keep the app functional and useful, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LinguaPuck is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. Lavooij Management BV shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app or accessory, including damages resulting from translation errors or misunderstandings.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

LinguaPuck accessory — status

Alongside the app, we're working on a separate hardware accessory — also called "the puck" — that picks up speech even better in busy environments like a restaurant or market. The LinguaPuck app already works fully on its own using your iPhone's built-in microphone; the puck will be an optional addition, not a requirement.

There's no fixed release date yet. As soon as there's news — a working prototype, an expected availability date, or a way to sign up as an early tester — it will be posted on this page.
